Step Up Your Yoga Game With These 5 Tips

Whether you are a seasoned yogi or preparing for your first-ever yoga class, it’s helpful to establish some goals in order to best track your progress on your mind-body journey. When we take a step back to look at where we’re at, and where we want to be, it becomes much easier to achieve growth.

If you’re ready to take your yoga practice to the next level, here are some suggestions that can help anyone improve.

1. Make yoga a daily ritual

If you want to see some real improvement in your flexibility, balance, and strength, it’s important to practice every day — even if it’s brief. You don’t need spend money on daily classes; just 20 minutes of mindful stretching each day will keep your body in tip-top shape, in between sessions.

2. Breathe

Controlled breathing isn’t just for yoga class. Focusing on your breathing throughout the day can allow you to apply the balance and serenity achieved through yoga to all types of tasks. The next time you feel stressed, overwhelmed, or even fatigued, it’s important to take a moment and refocus on your breathing. Regular breathing exercises will help you develop a sense of control both on and off the mat.

3. Get in the right mindset

Is yoga an agonizing experience for you? If you answered ‘yes’, then you are doing it wrong! If you know and trust your yoga teacher, it can still be helpful to branch out and explore different types of classes every once in awhile.

5. Know your limitations

The last thing you want to do is injure yourself on the mat, so it’s important to know what your body can handle. Don’t be afraid to push yourself, but if something feels wrong, listen to your body.
